Module 1- Learning Style Inventory

Learning Styles Inventory is a different approach or way of learning. These
styles are designed to help respondents determine their learning style. This
inventory is usually in the form of a questionnaire. In the questionnaire, it
focuses on how people prefer to learn. Respondents will select the best
answer according their own learning style or priorities.

VAK (VISUAL, AUDITORY and KINESTETIC)

Students can identify their most appropriate learning style using the VAK
learning style.

What is VAK learning style?
VAK is a combined uses of three main sensory receivers :
Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic (movement).
Sometimes it is known as VARK (Visual, Auditory, Reading and Kinesthetic).
It will determine their dominant learning style. These styles determine the
best way for learners to learn new things by filtering what they need to learn.

Characteristics of Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic

The VARK Questionnaire

Here, I included some questions from the VARK questionnaire and my
VARK's result :

example of  Vark Question

My Result of VARK (I'm Mild Kinesthetic)

STEPS TO SUCCESS:

1) Create a weekly schedule

(i) Weekly schedule planning is important because it helps you to manage
        time effectively.

(ii) This weekly schedule planning helps yourself and your mind getting
        ready to do something.

(iii) In fact, it helps you to be more focused and organized in doing things.

(iv) Also, it helps you get out of mess and confusion.

(v) Strategies to create your weekly schedule:
           1. Keep your weekly schedule simple
         2. Consider your duties and availability
         3. Also, plan time for fun
         4. Have some breaks

2)Discover your types of learner

(i) You must identify what’s your style learning. If you don't know how you
learn best, it will be impossible for you to learn efficiently at all.

(ii) There are 3 different style of learnings :

V- Visual
Use images, pictures, colour and other visual media to help you learn.
Incorporate much imagery into your visualizations. You may find that
 visualization comes easily to you.

 A- Auditory
This style is learning by hearing. This type of learning is helpful in the
classroom environment. During a lecture, an auditory learner is able to
easily comprehend, process and retain information. Auditory learning is
not only the ability to listen to spoken word and interpret tone, but to do
so with a high level of accuracy and efficiency. Learners with strong
auditory ability are able to hear and comprehend without missing much.

K- Kinesthetic
A kinesthetic learning style requires that you manipulate or touch material
to learn. Kinesthetic techniques are used in combination with visual or
auditory study techniques, producing multi-sensory learning.

3) Read the assigned stuff before class

Students should read the assigned stuff before beginning a class as a
preparation and know what to learn in that day. This step helps you be
able to participate effectively in the class.

4) Attend all the class early

The best ways to successful in the college is you need to attend classes. To
be better, come early to the classes. This is important because the notes
given by your lecturer mostly came out in the test. Also, as a student, you
should come earlier than your lecturer to get more blessings.

5) Get a notes of missed classes from reliable source

Get the notes from a classmate rather than ask your professor for a copy
of them if you missed a class. Professors are busy, and often don't have
time to do extra work each time a student misses a class. You need
get a note, so you don't miss out the learning even though you didn't
attend the class. It is your responsibility to attend class, and your
responsibility to get caught up on the rare occasions you are absent.

6) Get to know your instructor

As a student, you need to know who your lecturers are, especially their
names. This is important to remember their names because in the final
exams, you need to write down the names of the lecturers who teach
the subject.

7) Make a group study with friends

Study groups allow classmates to share ideas and thoughts, and this
open dialogue can lead to an increased understanding of the course
material. It can help you gain more knowledge. It is good to study in a
group when you have a hard topic which takes a long time for you to
interpret.

8) Become an active student

Yes, you must be an active student. You can't just listen to and read books
and all the notes they provide. You need to take down all the info and
re-read it to remember it in the long-term memory. Fact say that after 48
hours, you'll forget more than 90% of what you've learned. This can be
avoided if you repeat what you have learned or what you want to
remember. "Repetition is the mother of all skills." - Tony Robbins

9) Get closer to Allah SWT

As a Muslim, yes this is the most effective way to succeed. You should
keep and maintain your relationship with Allah SWT by performing the
prayers 5 times a day. Moreover, don't forget Allah SWT when you in a
good times and always do good deeds and praying that the knowledge
gained be blessed and can be a successful student.

10) Take care of health

Your health is one of the few things you should prioritize over your
academic life. Your health will affects your academic career: if you are in
good health, you’ll do better than if you aren't. You should take care your
physical health. Also,

(i) You should maintain your sleep time. Get enough sleep helps you to get
more energy for the next day and your mind is easier to remember
something if it is in a state of vigour and freshness.

(ii) Besides, do exercise such as running and so on can benefit the brain.
This is the way to relax your mind after learning all day long. At least do
exercise 2 times a week.

TRANSITION FROM HIGH SCHOOL TO UNIVERSITY

Learning Management System (LMS)

What is Learning Management System?
>> It is a software application for the administration, tracking, documentation, delivery and reporting of educational courses.

>> The Management utility is for completing administrative tasks and managing accounts. It allows teachers, school and district administrators to create classes, create students, create Virtual Views, and access the MyQ and iKnow Managers.

>> Example: iLearn

How to create LMS ?
>> Create your id by using your student id and insert password that easy to remember by you and don't ever give yours to others.

Module 4 - Memory and Improving Concentration

MEMORY PROCESSES

WHAT IS MEMORY?
Memory is our ability to encode, store, retain and subsequently recall information and past experiences in the human brain.

  WHAT IS BRAIN?
> A brain is an organ that serves as the
center of the nervous system
> A brain like computer hardware
> When we learn and remember, we will
encode, store and retrieve the information
> The analogy is brain like a computer

THE STORAGE ( RETAIN INFORMATION )

3 Types of memory:

Sensory Memory (sm)

Sensory memory is the shortest-term element of memory. It is the ability to retain impressions of sensory information after the original stimuli have ended. Numerous incoming information from 5 senses will be stored in the sensory memory for an instant. If one PAY ATTENTION to the stimuli, it will go to the short-term memory (stm), if one does not pay attention, then the information will be lost.

Short-term memory (stm)

Short-term memory is the capacity for holding a small amount of information in mind in an active, readily available state for a short period of time.
• Information must be repeated or rehearsed to get information into long-term memory, otherwise information will be forgotten.

Long-term memory ( ltm )

Long-term memory is a system for storing, managing, and retrieving information permanently for later use. Information items stored as long-term memory may be available for lifetime.
If the information not being used for some time, forgetting may occur.

HOW TO IMPROVE MEMORY?

What Is Mnemonic Strategies?

How Forgetting Could Occur:

ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGIES:
